Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Roller Operator to join our construction crew. The operator will be responsible for compacting materials like asphalt, soil, and gravel to the correct density and smoothness for roads, parking lots, and other surfaces. This role requires a keen eye for detail, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication with the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment operation: Operate various types of rollers, including vibratory and static models, to compact subgrade, aggregate, and asphalt surfaces.
- Compaction quality control: Perform successive, overlapping passes to achieve specified density and a smooth, finished surface, avoiding ridges and flaws.
- Team coordination: Communicate effectively with the paving foreman, density technician, and ground crew to ensure proper alignment and a consistent pace.
- Inspection and maintenance: Conduct daily walk-around inspections and routine maintenance checks, including checking fluid levels and lubrication, and reporting any mechanical issues.
- Safety compliance: Follow all company and OSHA safety policies, wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe work environment.
- General labor assistance: Perform ground crew tasks when needed, such as shoveling, raking, or using hand tamps in areas inaccessible to the roller.
Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience operating rollers in a construction environment, preferably with asphalt.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of different roller types, rolling patterns, and compaction techniques. Familiarity with materials like asphalt and soil is essential.
- Physical Demands: Ability to sit for extended periods, work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to [e.g., 50] pounds.
- Certifications and Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required, and a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus.
